University Park is a union of neighborhoods located just north of
North Carolina State University. Walk through
the area and discover a diverse collection of interesting older and
newer homes with a network of greenways and parks. Enjoy shopping,
restaurants and entertainment along Hillsborough Street to the south,
Ridgeway Shopping Center to the north and Cameron Village Shopping
Center to the east.
Explore the wonder of the expansive Rose Garden and take in a play
at Raleigh Little Theatre. Pogue Street, which hugs the Theatre
and Garden, preserves the shape of the racetrack used when the State
Fair was held at this location. The Fair moved in 1928 coincidently
with the development of the Fairmont neighborhood.
In general, the neighborhoods forming University Park were established
from east to west over a hundred year period - from Oberlin Village
during the 1860's to Beaver Dam during the 1960's.
University Park has a strong, active neighborhood association. Check
out their website below for more information. And come to the
annual springtime 'Magical Home, Garden & Yard Art Tour'. In
2003 this group of neighborhoods became a National Register Historic
District known as West Raleigh.
