Pullen Park is perhaps Raleigh's most popular park. It is certainly
the oldest. Land for the park was donated to Raleigh in 1887
by Richard Stanhope Pullen. Enjoy the train ride, boats, picnic
facilities, aquatic center, playground and open space. Additionally,
children (and adults) can ride the same Carousel their Great Great
Grandparents may have ridden. The Dentzel Carousel (centerpiece
of Pullen Park) was originally placed in now-closed Bloomsbury Park
in 1912. This historic Carousel was purchased by Raleigh around
1920 and began operating at its present location in Pullen Park in
1921.
Pullen Park was added to the National Register of Historic Sites
in 1976.
