After World War I, the second wave of suburbs was developed around
the fringes of Raleigh. The grandest of these new neighborhoods
was Hayes Barton.
This beautiful neighborhood was developed by Fairview Realty Company
and designed by distinguished landscape architect Earle Sumner Draper.
Cowper and Williamson streets are named for the former land owners.
Other streets are named for past governors of North Carolina (such
as Jarvis, Reid, Stone and Vance).
Hayes Barton remains one of Raleigh's premier neighborhoods.
