Indications are that the name 'Bloomsbury' was associated with Joel
Lane's estate back in the 18th century. 'Bloomsbury' was also
the name of an area amusement park which opened on the 4th of July
1912 (now closed). The Dentzel Carousel from old Bloomsbury
Park is now in operation at Pullen Park.
Bloomsbury neighborhood is a northern component of the Five Points
area of Raleigh. It is also a nationally designated historic
district known as Bloomsbury Historic District .
This neighborhood is a wonderful mix of large two-story homes and
beautiful bungalows. A few newer homes will be found here. However,
the majority were built during the Roaring 20's. Easily walkable
to many unique shops, restaurants and services of Five Points -- Bloomsbury
is a most desirable neighborhood.
